What we’re doing well
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, users should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom up to 300% without loss of content or functionality
- navigate most of the website using a keyboard
- use speech recognition software to interact with content
- access content using screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver
We aim to:
- write content in plain English
- structure pages clearly using headings and consistent layouts
- maintain clear navigation across key user journeys, including applications, support and contact
How accessible this website is
This website is currently partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
A structured review of representative pages and user journeys identified a number of accessibility barriers, particularly in:
- downloadable documents
- navigation and structure
- interactive elements and embedded systems
We are actively addressing these areas through a structured improvement programme.
Known accessibility issues
We are transparent about current limitations. The most significant issues are:
High-impact issues
1. Documents and downloadable content
Some PDFs and externally hosted forms, including student services processes, are not fully accessible. These may:
- lack proper tagging for screen readers
- have incorrect reading order
- require visual interaction
Impact: Users with visual impairments may not be able to access key information or services.
2. Navigation and structure
Some pages may not use consistent heading structures or landmarks.
Impact: Screen reader users may find it harder to navigate efficiently.
3. Keyboard accessibility
Some menus and embedded systems may not:
- be fully usable via keyboard
- provide clear visible focus indicators
Impact: Users who cannot use a mouse may be restricted.
Medium-impact issues
- Some images may not have appropriate alternative text
- Some colour contrast combinations may not meet minimum standards
- Some videos may not include captions or transcripts
Lower-impact issues
- Some links are not fully descriptive
- Some form labels and error messages may not be fully accessible
