Business (BTEC Level 2)

Why study Business?

Business gives you a clear introduction to how the commercial world operates. It provides a fascinating insight into the world of modern business and enterprise. You will learn about: the challenges of starting a business, financial planning, sales and customer service, production, management of people, visual merchandising, communication and motivation. This course allows you to develop sound business knowledge and helps you to build the foundational skills required for further studies at Level 3 or apply your skills in a real work setting.

Entry Requirements

You must have at least three grade 3s and one grade 2 at GCSE, which must include English Language.

We accept Passes in Level 2 BTEC or OCR qualifications as worth up to two GCSE grade 3s each.

The Course

Companies such as EE, Apple, Sky and Tesco are all very successful businesses and household names. This course investigates what makes a business successful, and will develop your knowledge and understanding of how businesses are run, organised, structured and financed. The course also looks at some of the most important areas good businesses focus on, such as:

  • How to provide outstanding customer service?
  • How to plan finances?
  • How to recruit the right people?

You will be encouraged to examine real business situations, making use of a range of information sources and personal research. This course is designed to introduce students to the world of business and prepare them for further studies and employment.

Course Activities

Students learn through assignments and activities such as presentations, discussions, group work, investigations, role play and work related learning.

Career and Progression Opportunities

Many Business students progress onto university to study Business further, and later progress into careers in finance, sales, administration and marketing. It is also excellent for a range of management roles in private or public sectors.
