Data Analytics (IT L3)
Why study Data Analytics (IT)?
The use of Information Technology and data analytics is now a core part of how organisations operate and make decisions. Data is collected everywhere — from retail and banking to healthcare and entertainment. By studying this course, you will develop the skills to understand, manage and analyse data, and to use it effectively in decision-making. You will gain both practical and theoretical experience, preparing you for university or employment in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the digital world.
Entry Requirements
In addition to our general entry requirements, you must have:
- GCSE English – grade 3
- GCSE Maths – grade 3
This reflects the mathematical and analytical content of the course. We expect all students to show strong interest in IT, problem-solving, and digital technologies.
The Course
The qualification is equivalent to one A Level. To achieve the Extended Certificate in IT: Data Analytics, students complete three mandatory units and two optional units.
Mandatory Units:
- Unit F200: Fundamentals of Data Analytics (exam)
- Unit F201: Big Data and Machine Learning (exam)
- Unit F202: Spreadsheet Data Modelling (assignment & controlled assessment)
Optional Units (subject to availability):
- Unit F203: Relational Database Design (assignment & controlled assessment)
- Unit F204: Data and the Internet of Everything (IoE) (assignment & controlled assessment)
Course Activities

Course Structure and Assessment
This course is assessed through a mix of written exams and coursework.
Year One (Certificate – equivalent to half an A Level):
- Unit F200: Fundamentals of Data Analytics (exam, 1 hour 15 minutes, 60 marks)
- Unit F202: Spreadsheet Data Modelling (assignment & 15 hours of supervised controlled assessment)
- Unit F203: Relational Database Design (assignment)
Year Two (Extended Certificate – equivalent to one A Level):
- Unit F201: Big Data and Machine Learning (exam, 1 hour 30 minutes, 60 marks)
- Unit F204: Data and the Internet of Everything (IoE) (assignment)
Grades awarded: Pass, Merit, Distinction, Distinction*
