The Corporation’s core responsibilities are to:
- determine the College’s educational character, mission, and values;
- set its strategic direction and ambitions;
- hold the Principal and senior leaders to account for educational quality and organisational performance;
- oversee financial performance, sustainability and the effective use of public funds;
- safeguard the College’s assets and ensure that legal and regulatory obligations are met; and
- assure itself that the College is well led, effectively managed and focused on continuous improvement.
The Corporation works through a structure of full Board and committee meetings. Governors provide constructive support and challenge to the College’s executive leadership while remaining appropriately independent from its day-to-day management.

Our governors act in accordance with the Seven Principles of Public Life, also known as the Nolan Principles:

The Corporation has also adopted the Association of Colleges’ Further Education Code of Good Governance, which is based on six principles:
- Determination of aims and strategic oversight
- Responsibility and accountability
- Leadership and integrity
- Collaboration and stakeholder engagement
- Regulatory compliance and
- Board and organisational effectiveness.
Together, these principles support governance that is ethical, transparent, inclusive and firmly focused on the success of our students and College.

Our governors are volunteers who bring a diverse range of professional, educational, business and community experience to the College. They contribute their expertise and judgement to collective decision-making and share a strong commitment to the young people and communities we serve.
