Support & wellbeing

Moving from school to a sixth form college is an exciting time. There’s a lot of change – which is a positive thing – but we also understand that you could find parts of this transition challenging. That’s why all students who join LSFC have access to individual support, for times when they’re feeling stressed, worried, down, angry or overwhelmed, and guidance to help you learn effectively.

The support you need, when you need it.

At LSFC, we know our students can face emotional health and wellbeing challenges. Sometimes feelings can be a reaction to things you’re experiencing in your life – like bullying or arguments at home. Or they can be a response to something that’s happened in your past. Sometimes, you won’t even know why you feel the way you do.

Whatever the reason, everyone who comes to LSFC has the best possible support and the resources they need to thrive. So, how do we do this?

  • We’ll provide you with the information you need to keep yourself safe and well through tutorial- and college-wide initiatives.
  • When you’re transitioning from school to college, we’ll check in and have conversations with you.
  • You’ll be allocated a Progress Coach, who can help with a range of issues from study help to mental health support, advice and signposting.
  • You’ll have access to a specialist Welfare and Support team, who can help with more complex issues.
  • Counselling and psychological support is available if you need it.
  • And when specialist support is required, we’ll involve external agencies.

Helping you achieve your potential.

Being a successful sixth form college student requires you to be an independent learner. This is a step on from how most people study at school, so we’re here to offer guidance on how best to do it.

We encourage our students to allocate at least an additional four hours of independent study per week, for every subject you take. It’s important to make the most of this time. That’s why we’ll guide you to the most effective ways of studying as part of our Tutorial Programme.

We provide study areas with access to PCs and laptops, so you can use your study period effectively. And we have a specialised achievement centre, supported by Academic Improvement Mentors and our Learning Resources Team.

By using our evidence-based strategies and taking advantage of the study areas on a regular basis, you can support your learning and achieve your potential.
