What are the entry requirements?
You'll need a grade 4 in GCSE English, a grade 6 in GCSE Maths, and two grade 6s in GCSE Science (or a grade 6 in Biology specifically, if you're taking Triple Science). You'll also need an overall GCSE average of 5.6. If you're not already studying A-level Maths, you'll add Level 3 Mathematical Studies (Core Maths) to your timetable alongside Biology.
What will you learn?
You'll explore life at a cellular, organism and ecosystem level, covering topics like cell biology, genetics, evolution, biodiversity and human physiology. Practical skills are built in from the start, and you'll carry out experiments, build models and use data to test and evaluate scientific ideas, just as working biologists do.
Can I combine Biology with other courses?
Yes. Biology combines well with Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and other science or maths-based subjects. It cannot, however, be studied alongside the Applied Human Biology Level 3 course, as the two overlap too closely in content.
What can this course lead to?
Biology is essential for many medical-based careers, veterinary science, biochemistry and any degree with Biology in the title, such as Marine Biology. It also opens doors into business, catering and horticulture, thanks to the strong analytical and evaluative skills you'll build. Many of our Biology students go on to study at selective universities, supported by our Luton Scholars Programme if they meet the entry criteria.
