Further Mathematics

Further Mathematics extends and deepens your knowledge beyond standard A-level Maths, covering topics like complex numbers and matrices. It’s a challenging, rewarding qualification for students who love maths and want to build the strongest possible foundation for degree-level study.

What are the entry requirements?
You'll need a grade 4 in GCSE English and a grade 8 in GCSE Maths. You must also study A-level Mathematics alongside Further Mathematics, as together they count as two A-level subjects, so most students would only add two further subjects.
What will you learn?
You'll study Core Pure Mathematics alongside a choice of Further Mechanics or Further Statistics, building on and extending everything covered in standard A-level Maths.
Is Further Maths right for me?
It's a strong choice if you're intending to continue Maths at degree level, or if a maths-heavy course is your goal. Some universities see it as a requirement, others as a strong advantage.
What can this course lead to?
Further Mathematics opens doors to a wide range of maths-related degrees and careers, including engineering, finance, computer science and academic research.
