What are the entry requirements?
You'll need at least three grade 3s and one grade 2 at GCSE, including English Language. Level 2 BTEC or OCR Passes count towards this too, worth up to two GCSE grade 3s each.
What will you learn?
You'll cover computer hardware and how systems are built and maintained, networking and how devices communicate, and the fundamentals of data handling and spreadsheets. You'll also develop your understanding of cyber security and safe working practices, and learn to select and use the right software tools for a given task.
How is the course structured?
The Certificate is taught across six units over six 1.5-hour lessons a week, combining internally assessed coursework with externally assessed units. Practical work in the IT suites forms a substantial part of the course.
What else will I study alongside this course?
This Certificate forms part of a full study programme, alongside two further Level 2 courses. If you don't already hold a grade 4 or above in GCSE English or Maths, you'll continue working towards these, or towards Functional Skills, at the same time.
What can this course lead to?
Many students progress to Level 3 study the following year, such as the Data Analytics Extended Certificate or Cyber Security and Networks. Others move into junior IT roles or apprenticeships, in the IT industry or elsewhere.
